The spreadsheet with our team names was still open when the founder sent a message saying runway was being reviewed again. I was supposed to check which vendor payments can be delayed, so I kept doing that like nothing had happened. Then I saw my own name highlighted in the second tab, only because I had made that tab last month. It was not a layoff list, probably. Still, my stomach went weird. In the flat, my roommate was asking if I had UPI-ed my part of the electricity bill. I said haan, one minute, and opened my bank app, but I was actually checking whether my salary credit had come. The salary did come. This month. I joined this startup because the role looked like more responsibility and I was already tired of waiting for a proper title in my old job. Now every small expense feels like I should not be making it. Mom had asked last week if I can send some extra for a family function, and I had said I will see after month end. I am not even sending regularly, so why am I acting like one delayed payment will collapse everything. But also, if they cut people, I don't know how quickly I can get another operations role without accepting less. I have updated only the first two lines of my resume. After that I started checking the spreadsheet again. The founder has not said anything directly. Maybe the highlighted name is just a filter I forgot to remove. I keep looking at it before replying to work messages.
