A client specifically credited my layout and accessibility revisions for making a presentation usable in a review my manager attended. I’m pleased about it, genuinely. But my first reaction was to start calculating what it might mean for progression, which is annoying because I wanted to enjoy the recognition before turning it into evidence. I’ve saved the comments and written down the responsibilities I want to discuss at my next one-to-one. No title or pay change, obviously. It’s strange being thanked publicly and still not knowing what would count as advancement, or how to raise that without sounding as though the praise was the only reason I cared.
