Couple Struggling with Relationship Distance Amid Financial Stress
After dinner, my wife and I often sit in the same room but separately check our phones. Then we discuss only tomorrow’s payments, groceries, or some errand. Since my layoff, money has taken over so much of our conversation that even being together feels like administration. We are together all day sometimes and still not really together. I also know I’ve been distracted and difficult to reach, so this isn’t simply her fault. I don’t need some grand gesture, just one evening that doesn’t feel like another financial meeting. I suggested a short walk with no job or money discussion, and she agreed to try it once. Small thing, but I’m hoping we haven’t made this distance permanent.
