At dinner my father asked when we will finally start looking for our own house. He also mentioned relatives who have already bought, as if I am just sitting without planning. Why do people talk about buying in Jaipur like it is a small decision? Business income is not fixed every month. If I take a big loan, stock money, children’s school expenses and emergency fund all get affected. But rent is also becoming costly and joint family privacy is another matter. My wife and children cannot keep adjusting forever. I have some savings, but not enough to feel comfortable. Should I first keep a fixed six-month emergency fund and then start looking, or at least meet a broker and see small apartments/plots? Sometimes I feel I am being sensible, sometimes it feels like I am using the business as an excuse because I am scared to take a proper decision.
