Finding Purpose Through Volunteer Work in Retirement
The local library let me help catalogue donated books on two weekday mornings each month. It is not exactly my old professional life—nobody needs my old job title to sort a shelf properly—but I was surprised by how useful I felt there. Some retired weeks have been a bit too empty, and having somewhere to be makes a difference. I’ve finished two sessions and there is talk of taking a regular weekly morning if they still need help. Modest work, unpaid, and somehow it gives the week better shape.
