Managing Family Financial Requests During Budget Rebuilding
The monthly loan payment came out before my next teaching payment arrived, and then a relative asked if I could help replace an urgent appliance. The money was gone before I had a chance to decide what it was for. My wife and I are rebuilding a predictable budget after I came back from abroad, so the balance people see isn’t really spare money—rent, food, transport and the next payment are already attached to it. We’re trying to set a minimum reserve and only offer what’s above that. Saying “not now” still makes me feel unreliable, but I can’t keep using savings as the automatic buffer. How do others set a contribution limit without making every family request a fight?
