Balancing Home Repairs and Financial Worries as a Homeowner
The contractor said the roof needs to be repaired before we replace the kitchen cabinets, so we postponed the cabinets and moved that money into the repair and a monthly home-maintenance reserve. Sensible, obviously, but it still unsettled me. The house is ours, including every inconvenient part of it. Owning it is supposed to feel like security, yet one estimate had me wondering what happens if another major repair appears before we rebuild the savings. I’m grateful we have a home. I’m also tired of treating every expense as a test of whether we planned well enough.
