Adjusting to Care in a New Relationship After Hard Work
My partner turned up after an early shift with the vegetable soup I’d mentioned weeks ago, plus bread for the next morning. I’d been working consecutive early shifts and eating whatever took the least effort, so honestly, it was bloody lovely. He remembered the exact thing I said. I thanked him properly instead of making a joke and brushing it off, which is progress of sorts. Still, being looked after by someone new can catch me off guard. Part of me feels disloyal when life gets gentler, even though I know accepting soup doesn’t rewrite the person who cared for me before.
