Balancing Home Repairs and Renovation Dreams Amid Variable Income

The kitchen project is on hold. The contractor advised doing the roof first, so we have redirected the renovation money to that and started putting something aside each month for maintenance. It is the sensible decision, especially with variable income, but I am still disappointed. I wanted the kitchen to make the house feel renewed. Instead, ownership is reminding me that it includes every repair I would rather postpone. The house is secure, and that matters more than new cupboards, but a reserve may be a better sign of security than a kitchen I cannot enjoy while worrying about the next repair.
