Balancing AI Tool Learning with Coding Basics for Job Prep

During lab, one classmate showed an AI tool completing a small coding task that he had spent hours learning manually. It was impressive, but my first thought was: if the tool can already do this, what skill will companies still expect from me? Now I’m worried I’ll start learning random AI tools and again mess up my placement preparation. I still need to strengthen the basics, not keep changing my whole plan every time something new appears. I’m thinking of testing one tool through a small project, maybe one fixed session each week, but I don’t know if that is useful or just another distraction.

Test it against one placement skill, not against “AI” in general. Otherwise the weekly session can easily become tool tourism.
