They added a weekend shift to my roster today, without even asking if I can arrange childcare. I had already made a simple plan with my child. Now I’m expected to cancel it because the unit is short-staffed and “team commitment” apparently means nurses should always adjust. I usually say yes, so maybe I trained them for this. But I have limited backup, and staffing is already under review. If I refuse, will my name be remembered when contracts are decided? People without children probably look more reliable here, honestly. I can send my unavailable hours and offer one other date. Is refusing this one shift unreasonable?
