Why is my work always the part assumed to be movable
Why is my work always the part assumed to be movable? I have a required accounting commitment during the same window as childcare, and my partner says they can’t adjust until we discuss every alternative first. Somehow my availability is treated as automatic, like I’m the backup plan for the baby and everyone else’s schedule. I know I’ve agreed to this too many times, but I’m tired. I don’t have much flexibility or extra money for last-minute care, and I really don’t want to cancel something important at work just because parenting duties aren’t actually planned between us. I feel guilty even thinking about letting someone else handle the disruption, and I’m worried I’ll be called selfish or difficult if I push back. Is it unreasonable to say we need an actual recurring childcare plan instead of negotiating every crisis? I want shared parenting, but I’m starting to wonder if this is just the arrangement my marriage expects me to accept.
