Balancing Reduced Hours and Workload Expectations After Career Restart
My manager asked me to take over a client report due Monday because a colleague is unavailable. I’m working reduced hours after restarting my career, and evenings are already fixed for childcare and home. I nearly said yes automatically because I do want to be seen as serious and dependable. But if I say yes again, this becomes normal. I asked which of my existing tasks should move if this report is urgent, and got a Monday extension. Small relief, but it’s irritating that a basic workload limit feels like I’m proving I’m committed.
