Setting Boundaries with a Coworker's Personal Messages After Hours

A coworker has started messaging me late in the evening about personal things and suggested getting coffee, without any real work reason. Maybe it’s completely friendly, but evenings are already limited with a child and sales work, and I’m uncomfortable with how vague it feels. I’m married and don’t want to create suspicion at home or make work awkward. I haven’t said anything yet, which probably isn’t helping. I’m drafting something like, “I’d prefer to keep our contact work-related.” Is that a reasonable boundary, or unnecessarily harsh?

That wording is reasonable. You don’t need to figure out whether the coffee is innocent before deciding late-evening personal messages aren’t something you want.
