I don’t know if this is burnout or if I have started avoiding the work because I am scared of seeing how much I am behind. I promised my junior I would explain a difficult topic before evening duty. My notes have been open for almost an hour and I am still on the same paragraph. The tea beside me is cold. My phone is face-up and I keep checking it instead of replying to her. I got a lower internal assessment mark yesterday. Since then I have been counting all the hours I wasted, as if that will somehow help. I also have a form for the next assessment due soon and I have not properly started anything. I made a timetable and told my parents I would catch up. Mostly I just moved the unfinished tasks to the next day. Night duties are exhausting, but I think I am also using them to explain everything. I want to tell my junior honestly that I cannot do it today and make a smaller plan. But then I will look unreliable, and I already feel guilty that my parents are supporting me while I am avoiding the work. Is this still a normal phase of burnout, or is my current way of managing things clearly failing? Should I admit I cannot help today and start again from something very small?
